Art has long been a powerful vehicle of expression used to challenge and resist negative stereotypes.
Join us for an evening of exploring how different ethnic and class communities - Romani, Indigenous, Black -- have utilized multiple art forms to resist systemic discrimination and oppression.
Canadian Romani Alliance co-founder Gina Csanyi-Robah will share examples of art as resistance from both the Spanish and Canadian Roma communities, including the flamenco roots of Diego El Cigala‘s music and Chad Evan Wyatt’s romarising photo exhibit.
A dynamic panel discussion with special guests:
visual artist Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun
Theatre for Living’s Dafne Blanco
UBC Assistant Professor Alessandra Santos
filmmaker Julia Lovell Mohammed
Free to attend, space is limited.
